In conference rooms and cubicles all over the world, from Boston to Rotterdam, from Silicon Valley to Detroit to London, software developers began discovering similar patterns for how to more effectively do their work. Those discoveries were captured at a gathering in 2001 and given the name “Agile”. Since that time, Agile has become both a buzzword and a bad word in a wide variety of departments beyond software and technology at companies in nearly every industry.

What is Agile, really? In what contexts it is useful? Where is Agile overkill or a bad fit? The answers to these questions set the stage for every individual, team, and organization considering adopting Agile for the first time or improving the way they use agile techniques. This half-day intro course provides a firm foundation for every other topic we teach and shared language for most of our coaching conversations. For that reason, it is a prerequisite for many of our other courses.*

During this interactive half-day workshop you’ll learn:

  • How complexity and uncertainty change the way we structure work
  • How different types of problems require different styles of interaction
  • Why “plan better” doesn’t give us better outcomes (anymore)
  • How Agile emerged as a way to more effectively manage in complexity
  • How Agile and Scrum are different, though related, concepts
  • * Prereq for these courses in 2022: CSM, CSPO, LOT (CAL-E and CAL-O), Agile for Teams
